Im thinking about flying across country and renting a car and driving back. What are the cons to doing that?

Thinking about flying from Philly to California, renting a car, and taking my good ol time driving back. But I dont know much about the costs involved with renting a car. Is there an outrageous fee for renting a car in Calif. and ending the trip in Philly?

I”ve done that. It’s all about timing. The key to it is to call around to all the agencies about 1-way rental. What you have to do is find someone that has a car that was a 1-way the other way that they need to get back. For instance, you’re going to rent one from Ca. to Philly. So, if a week later someone wants to do the same thing from Philly to Ca, and they called where you dropped yours off, then they’d get a great deal because the agency needs to get it back to California.

Shop around, try everyone and maybe wait a bit, then try again. I’ve done this several times (it’s one of my favorite ways to do a trip) and have gotten cars as little as $90 1-way for a week unlimited miles.
