I need to rent a car for 9 days from Kansas City International airport, and when I look online at the rates they include airport tax and it is REALLY high. No matter where I look and what discounts I try using, I get terribly high rates.Unfortunately I will be arriving on a Saturday afternoon and therefore all the other rental agencies in the city will be closed and I am going to spend most of the time about 300 miles away from Kansas city.
SO, is there any way to get this down significantly?I am wondering about some of the membership/club options some of the rental companies offer, like ‘Thrifty’ offer their ‘BLUECHIP’ membership, but I am a bit vague about what all that is about, and they want my credit card number and so forth.
So if anyone knows of a good idea to help or has any experience with these memberships, I would really appreciate that, thank you.
If you belong to the rental car agency’s "bluechip" or other frequent rental programs, you’ll receive discounts by email that you can use at local and airport locations. I have memberships with Thrify, Dollar, and Enterprise. Sometimes they will give you points which can add up to special upgrades or a free day’s rental. They will help you save some money. Another way to save money is to book a smaller car. I always book an economy size car which is the least expensive and saves me the price of gas, too. Another way to save money is to avoid traveling on holidays or other special occasions (like conventions and special events) going on at the time. Rental car agencies always boost their rates during holidays and special events.
More about joining Bluechip and the other rental car companies frequent rental programs. You will be able to get into a special line at the rental location because they already have all of your information in the computer. You’ll put that information into the computer when you sign up with them (driver’s license number, name, address, phone number, credit card information, etc…). This makes getting your rental car easier and faster. It’s free to join and you can cancel your membership at any time if you’re not satisfied. You will receive a membership card in the mail with your name and membership number on it. Use that number when making any reservations. Oftentimes, the rental car companies will either email or call you after a rental and ask you about their service. I just had Enterprise phone me about my rental experience with my car from Pittsburgh Airport. I told them everything was fine. I highly recommend joining Thrifty’s Bluechip program or any of the others for the discounts and the faster service.
