Can you rent a car from Hertz if you’re 19?

I’m planning a day trip with friends to the beach. My mom isn’t ok with me driving her 15 plus yr old Lexus w/ friends in the car on a 3hr drive (even though I’ve been driving for awhile with no tickets or accidents!). Anywho, as a 19 yr old, I hear that I’m too young to rent from places like Hertz. However, if my mom signs the car out in her name, will Hertz (or any car rental service) allow me to drive the car for a fee (even though I’m 19?). I’ve been doing research, and I can’t find any helpful information.

Thanks!

The Insurance companies that the car rentals get their insurance policies written by will not insure their cars for drivers under 25 in most states and in some they will allow 21 year olds. If your mother rents it and you drive it, the vehicle will not be covered, and if Hertz finds out that is her plan they will not rent it to her. Also the rental agreements that whe will sign will specify that she does not let anyone under a certain age drive or they will not be covered.

Hertz isn’t going to rent to a 19 year old. Your mom will have to sign that she won’t let anyone under 21 drive, and if someone under 25 drives, the additional fee for that is roughly $125 per day.

Most car rental places won’t let anyone under 25 drive their vehicles, some may go to 21 for an additional fee. I doubt any would allow a 19 year old to drive their cars.
