I am 21 yearsof age, have a debit card, but no credit card ( I understand the hold concept if using a debit card and that does not bother me). Going maybe 3 hours away from Houston, TX. If I fly, would it be easier for me to pick up a rental car in Tyler, TX?, or try my best to get one in Houston, considering my age and that I have no credit card at my disposal?
I remember googling somewhere that it was a better chance someone 21 could rent a car easier when picked up from an airport or somethig of that nature. Is this true?. If not, what is my best option and where to rent a car. Hertz, Enterprise, Dollar, and Thrifty I heard MAY rent to a 21 year old. My straight forward question is, would I have a better shot flying then renting the car and driving back, OR simply try to rent the car here? and where?.
Being picked up is not much of an option if I fly, because the person I am going to see is not currently in best health and I have no one to borrow a car from here. So any answers regarding what I asked specifically would be most helpful.
Thank you.
It will be difficult and maybe impposible to rent with debit card and under age 25.
If you do find a rental car company who will rent to you then you will most likely pay much more than a normal renter who shops around and gets the best price.

Most car companies won’t rent to someone under 26. I recommend a taxi driver to drive you to a Greyhound station, although that would cost a lot of money considering how big our city is.
I recommend Yellow Cab for getting to the Greyhound station: http://www.yellowcabhouston.com/
And I looked up how much it would cost to get to Tyler from Houston from the Greyhound station, and it costs 42 bucks.
The Greyhound station is on 2121 Main Street by the way.
Good luck!
