Flying from gatwick to florida, renting car, help with car seat problem?

Posted by admin on February 22nd, 2010 and filed under renting a car | 6 Comments »

I have a 5 and 3 yr old with us and i was going to rent seats out there, apparantly i do it when i pick the car up, now i dont know if i should take my 3yo seat and a booser cushion in suitcase for the 5yo, take the 3yo seat on the plane or check it in, will it get dammaged as its a very expensive new one lol, not sure what i should do for the best can anyone give me some tips of what they did.
Are the car rented car seats ok? safe? i’m quite happy for them to sit on the plane without seats as that was the original plan but dont want it to get bashed around if i check it in.
Also does anyone know if they will count it as luggage and weigh it! please help!

Just a thought, but if you do take the seats, how do you know they will safely fit in your hire car? Be a bit of a bummer to trake them all that way only to find they don’t fit!

I only ask because it took me ages to find a seat that fitted WELL in my car, and just fitting isn’t enough, it needs to fit securely and safely.

I assume the ones you hire will fit in your hire car.

Renting car to drive in mountains – do I need more torque or horsepower?

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2010 and filed under renting a car | 7 Comments »

Did this once before in a long van – and THEN learned it did not have an engine capable to move itself up a steep incline. This time, I want a vehicle that will cooperate. Please advise. Many thanks.

Torque is more important. Torque is twisting force. If you want to be able to climb mountains you want your wheels to have lots of twisting force/torque.

What insurance coverage is required for renting car in Ohio?

Posted by admin on February 18th, 2010 and filed under renting a car | 1 Comment »

I am an Indian citizen, I would be visiting Milford for a week. I am not sure which insurance (liability/full coverage/anything else) is required by Ohio laws. Thanks in advance.

Buy the insurance the rental car company sells… Must have a valid drivers license and a credit card –no cash checks or money orders…
Since you are only renting for a week– don’t rent– it is only one week.. Have the friends or relatives pick you up at the airport…
Going to be their on busines– sorry–rent the car…

How safe is renting car and driving in Egypt?

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2010 and filed under renting a car | 8 Comments »

Me and my wife plan to visit Egypt. Land in Cairo and drive to Hurghada near Red Sea. How safe is that and how long can it take by a normal sedan?

Hello

the country is Safe that us sure

my main concerns is the actual driving from Cairo to Hurghada

The first 100 KM is fine new road

there is the road of EL Ain El Sokhna and Porto El Sokhna not that easy + our driving rules totally different than back home

I will not recommend that first time you drive this way to be alone you will need to be accompanied by Egyptian

check the website in the sources and you will find Trip from Cairo and From Hurghada as well

Renting Car With An 18 Year Old Additional Driver?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010 and filed under renting a car | 2 Comments »

We are planning a trip and want to rent a car but we need to add an additional driver. Is it allowed to have an 18 year old additional driver with the renter (primary driver) being over 25? Will there be a charge? We plan to rent a minivan or SUV from Thrifty. We are in the state of California.
Sorry not renting specifically from Thrifty. Still shopping around.

Not only does the additional driver have to be 25, but they also have to have their own credit card and it can’t be a debit card. A real credit card.
