My mom can’t drive her car because she is very sick and she have made bad a decision buying a new SUV and the family tried to talk her into getting rid of the SUV all together. But… she got rid of the SUV and purchase a new car. She is not financially able to pay for this and she refuse to sell it. We have a member of the family who drives the car and they are not taking care of the it. My neice and her husband get into arguements with my mom (their grandmother) because they want to have the car over a period of time and take it out of town with no money to put gas in the car. My neice and her husband do not work and are a couple of low-lives, but I love their poor children who have been born in this terrible situation. I am wondering if theres anyone out there who know how to go about renting a car that is not in use. Thanks…

you will have to read the loan contract to see if you can do that

Lol@bicycle comment. Anyways, all the places will rent it for ya. Again, its just you need to pay the added insurance cost which actually is quite substantial.

I’d go with Alamo, I book my car there everytime. It’s the cheapest usually, and they always give me a free upgrade. Just book with the coupon codes.

If you are heading down there, save more money by booking hotels at http://www.mycheapvegas.com

Cheers!

Thanks all.

I called Enterprise Car rental. There are NO additional charges for crossing the border into Ireland in a car rented in UK. They just said they will provide me with documents in case i am stopped by Irish authorities…so it’s all good.

I can answer the inverse of this question. I have rented a car from Enterprise in the Republic of Ireland and had no problem driving into NI and leaving Belfast for Troon on the ferry. I simply called them to ask if this was OK, and they said it was. At that time there were no additional charges. You should call to ask ahead of time, but I am guessing it is OK.

We are moving to USA for one year, and need transportation. Buying a car is one thing, getting rid of it the last week/days before we return is another.

As an alternative to buying a car, which can be troublesome before we have opened bank accounts, have no permanent address etc – I am looking into renting/leasing a car for one year. What are my options?

For buying, a used SUV would be my first choice.

Call Enterprise Rent a Car, they have a long term monthly rental program.

I have no idea what their costs are but if they are less than $250 a month it would be worth considering. Anything more than that would be wasting money. You can buy a good used car and resell it for much less than that.

My wife and I are traveling to New Zealand this September and renting a car for 2-weeks. We found out that our USA car insurance does not cover automobiles in New Zealand. I also checked American Express (my credit card) and they too do not offer any type of coverage in New Zealand. We are renting our car from Hertz but the insurance through them is super expensive.

Does anybody have a suggestion on temporary car insurance in New Zealand? Also, feel free to offer any other advice about renting cars and driving in New Zealand.

Thanks a lot!

As you are from the US, you’ll need to deal with a company that also operates in the US in case there are any ongoing repercussions should you have a claim. You could perhaps arrange it with your usual insurance broker, but a policy drwn up in the States, won’t allow for New Zealnd conditions.
The easiest option therefore is to take the insurance offered by the car rental company. It will be concise and straightforward.
But, make sure you read it through prior to signing it, and cross out, question, or replace any clauses that will unfairly disadvantage you.
Be aware that the insurance will not cover you on some roads, eg: Ball Hut Rd, Rainbow Road, Skippers Road, Milford Road, any beach (most of which are designated public roads), the Russell Coast Road, and a few others – they are listed on the policy.
Most companies likewise do not allow their cars to travel on roads that are not a sealed surface.
There are cheaper car rental companies than the big three. However the big three companies (in general) are the only ones that offer new cars, that is cars with no more than 50 000km on the clock. At that milage those cars are then on-sold to the other companies who may run them up to 200 000 km.
Check out the yellow pages listing for rental cars. See www.yellow.co.nz

Have fun, drive carefully (All the other people on the road are idiots) and keep left – you’ll be right.

want to rent a car for onre day in athens ,want to go to visit mycenae

It is as easy to rent a car in Athens and Greece as it is anywhere else. I would suggest that you book your car in advance so that you are assured of one when you want it. Some of the smaller town rental agencies are contractor with larger companies such as National.

Be aware that an International Driver’s Permit is required. These can be obtained from AAA or the National Auto Club (these are the only companies authorized by the US Department of State to issue these permits).

Driving in Greece is a different experience but not insurmountable.

If anybody knows for sure if this will work please let me know asap! thanks!

You will need to show your driver’s license when you go to pick-up the car which shows your birthdate. If the driver’s license from the country you are from doesn’t show your birthdate, you will be asked to show your passport or other ID with your birthdate.

The islands in Hawaii are not that large, except for perhaps the big island. You will probably be able to get around just fine on public transportation if you can’t get a rental car.
