Even with "discounts" I’m getting quotes of $306 + after all taxes and fees for a 5 day car rental (full-size car). How do I get around if I don’t rent a car — or is there a cheeper way to rent a car that I’m missing?
seems way to high for me, maybe if you walk in one those rental places and ask they will lower the price. Usually higher prices are for summer and other high-peak times.

What should I take care when taking a car on rent at San Diego?
Hi, I want to take a car for driving license test in San Diego,CA. So I want to take a car on rent for month. When I rent a car at that time what kind of care should I have take,like what kinds of insurance, what kind of protection plans etc.

I have full permit to drive a car. I had already given a written test and I got full permit.
Most places wont rent you a car unless you are over 21 and have a actual license and proof of insurance.
What you might have to do is get a second person to rent the car, maybe a parent or someone but make certain that you let the rental company know that you will be driving it as well to avoid any problems in case something bad happens.
There are cheaper rental companies that do rent older cars-nothing wrong with the cars but they just arent the brand new vehicles like you usually get from Avis or the other big rental places. You might want to check with one of these places to save you some money plus they might be more willing to work witih you if you are under 21.

Check through Priceline, we got a great deal on a minivan. (17 a day instead of 60+)
What I would do is check a site like travelocity or expedia so you can see all the prices in the area at once. It may also do some good to go to each individual website of the rental businesses to see if they have any specials.
I’m not sure whats local to long beach, but you may want to check Dollar Rent-a-Car, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Alamo, Thrifty… I can’t think of any more. I find I get the best prices at Dollar and Enterprise.
