I am over 25, will rent a car, Hertz at LAX, how much for the lowest insurances cost and what is it ? could i use someone else insurance ?

Hello, On the 23rd of Dec 2011, I will be picking up a hardtop Ford Mustang at MCO ( Orlando Airport )that I will be dropping off in FLL ( Fort Lauderdale Airport)on Dec 30th 2011 . One quick question, Do you think I would get a fully loaded, close to new Mustang, or a regular base model mustang that might be brand new or well-used. If the info is needed the cost was 322.09 for 1 week including taxes. Also is there A chance I will get a lower upgrade fee to a better car ( convertible, CORVETTE ). Also should I get the prepaid ?
By convertible I meant any convertible ( Mustang, Sebring etc )

I agree with McCoy. Most, if not all, rental car companies carry very basic to middle of the line vehicles because most people cannot afford to rent the "top of the line" models and most, if not all rental vehicles, are purchased from dealers’ lots. If you rent a Mustang, you are probably going to get one with a 2012 model with a V6 engine–it won’t be a Mustang GT. If that’s what you want, you may want to call a Ford dealership in the area that rents vehicles. But you won’t be able to do that since you’re going to Fort Lauderdale. Most rental vehicles are current-model. I’d venture to say you’ll have a 2012 model. Most upgrades are for vehicles "one level" above your rental. And I seriously doubt you will find a Corvette convertible sitting on a rental lot. If you opt for prepaid, you are assured your vehicle will be there. Since you are renting during Christmas week, you can’t be too particular about the car you will get.

Im 22 and i have no credit history. The hertz rent a can worker couldnt tell me on the phone if i could possibly rent a car from hertz she didnt really know. but she told me that as long as i have no bad credit she said it shouldnt be a problem. could i rent a car? i need more opinions .

You are over the age of 21, so yes you can rent a car.
Credit isnt really a problem to be honest, just so long as you can pay for it and you have a drivers licence then you can rent a car no problems.

I got a quote online on Hertz.com and it had an age group of 20-24. I went ahead and made the reservation but I was wondering if they’re going to allow me to rent the car even though I’m 20. I’m only asking because most rental agencies won’t allow anyone under the age of 21 to rent a car. I’m confused! please help me out.

Being very cynical I bet you find there is some sort of "compulsory" VERY HIGH PRICED insurance.
They know if you crash the car it is unlikely they would get the full cost of the write off car cost as you will have few assets.
So they are not going to let you have a car which statistically is more liable to be crashed unless they are fully covered!
Rental Companies are expert at giving low prices (or in your case low age) to get the order and then loading you up with lots of expensive "extras".

Only consider a car with a manual transmission in a place like NYC if you are a total masochist.

Anyone I know who bought a car with a manual transmission for big city driving regrets it. You will do so much stop and go, you will be replacing clutches every few months.

Car rental companies rarely have manual cars because only people who want to drive a car really hard want them. And the companies know that sort of driver costs them too much in repairs. Hence no manual transmission cars for rent.

I am trying to rent a car at hertz, I am 21 years old and do not have a credit card. In order to rent a car I MUST have a credit card, otherwise some companies do accept debit cards BUT they will run a credit report first and must have enough funds on your card to cover for the rental PLUS they will "hold" money on your account for rental security purposes. They will hold from $100-$300, my concern is what will my credit results be if I have NO credit at ALL. Will I be able to rent a car?

You will have to ask Hertz their policy to know if you will be able to rent a car and strongly suggest you get a credit card. You can get a prepaid credit card to start to establish credit, it works like a debit card, you give the bank say $500 and you can use the card up to that amount. Your credit results will be that you have no credit which is worse than having bad credit.

Specifically I’m looking to rent a car in Calgary, Alberta and drive to Anchorage, Alaska. So far I’ve checked the major rental agencies (Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, Fox, Rent-A-Wreck, Budget, National), but none have allowed it.

Sorry none of the rental companies allow cross border transportation of their cars until you are in Europe as that is the only exception. So the option you have is fly there and hire car there without any hassles.

ok so i went on the hertz car rental website and i want to rent a car for 1 day. Lets say for example that i want to rent a toyota corrola and it says it costs 23$ for one day. And i happen to live in arizona and i would like to drive to california for that day and come back in time to return the car, would there be extra money charged for ever mile you drive. Or will the price be the same of 23$.

Some rental contracts have 100 free miles and then charge for excess miles driven. Call the rental company and explain what you plan to do and they can give you a rate for unlimited mileage. Good Luck
