I live in lakeland,fl and need to rent a car. Hertz wont approve me, and avis want a $400 deposit. Then enterprise want like $320 for an economy with a $200 hold because of the superbowl. Does anyone know of a good rental company like thrifty thats located in LAKELAND,FL????

Great customer service from Marino at the Hertz in Boston. Dropped off our car and then he gave us a ride to our terminal in our rental car so we wouldn’t have to get on shuttle. You can usually get good deals on used cars from the rental places, and they’re pretty trustworthy. In my experience, the problem is finding a former rental car worth buying. Most of them are pretty boring.

I have called Hertz customer service with a complaint about a discrpancy with the "Surcharge" and the "Privilege fee". My onine reservation showed a different price for both of these charges and they claim the online reservationi is "approximate" and that is their only explanation for the difference in charges. I do not think this is an acceptable answer and I want to take action against this company. I just don’t know where to start. Has anyone else had a problem with Hertz?
Note: I understand these 2 charges would appear on my final receipt, however, I want Hertz to honor the quoted price I received online for these 2 charges. The actual rental fee for the car itself was just as it was stated on the online reservation, it is only the "Surcharge" and the "Privilege fee" that are not correct. It just makes me furious and I don’t want to let them get away with this. What action can I take?

Some of the taxes and fees associated with your rental are approximate. Unfortunately, the only thing guaranteed with your online reservation is the rate quoted before taxes and fees. The only time I have heard on these changing are when the government/airport changes the fees that the rental company must charge you.
The Hertz reservation states "Rate is guaranteed. Taxes, fees and extras, if not included in the Rate, are subject to change. " This means that they do have the right to change any fees that they charge. Usually it is only pass through fees they change.
My advice is to find out if these are pass through fees as your description does not provide quite enough detail. If they are, then not much you can do. If these are Hertz applied fees then I would try talking to a manger. If you are Hertz gold try calling their hot line. You will probably not have much luck in small claims although Hertz may not show.
