I have been looking of some websites like herz, Discount, Budget and I see that an economy class car costs about 25 $ a day. Do I have to pay for every additional KM after that? How much would each KM be?
Are there any other surprise fees I should know about?

Your best bet is to call the company and ask about their policy of return to different locations. If you rent from New York City for example, and don’t want to pay the expensive additional airport fees, you have the option of renting with smaller companies like http://WWW.AAMCAR.COM.

Weekday rates are cheaper and if you call and speak with management, they can usually work out a deal to pick-up or drop-off at airports for a small charge.

I am wanting to rent a car from any car company from Sept. 12 – 25th. I would like to pick up in Austin, Texas and drop off in L.A. California. It does not have to be at the airports. So far the cheapest quote has been $687.00, but I would have to [pick up on the 12th - drop off on the 19th] and [same day] I would pick up another car for the rest of the trip.

I’m looking for tips, tricks, discounts codes (I have a discount for budget 20% off willing to share) to getting a rental car that is cheaper than that price? I’m open to all options even not to go through a car rental place.

We are traveling to Maui in April & are looking for an inexpensive way to rent a car. We’ve tried the discount travel sits and they still seem to be pretty pricey.We heard that there are companies that rent out older cars for much cheaper but havent been find any. Does anyone know the cheapest way to rent a car in Maui?

When I was in Maui we rented a jeep. That way you can take the top off. It was a great experience. Really fun to drive. Especially on the road to Hana which I would recommend driving as it was awesome. As far as pricing I’m not sure what company we used but check out www.priceline.com. They also have a name your own price which I have been pretty lucky at over the years. Search the best price using travelocity.com and priceline.com and then you can make a reservation in someone’s name when you find a good price (check daily or often). Then you can always cancel that reservation if you do the name your own price on priceline and are accepted. Do the two reservations in two different names. I’d be careful about renting from a no name place or a junker. If it breaks down do they come get you and have another care available. Oh another thing is you can try getting discounts with the Entertainment card or your Sam’s Club membership or AARP. Good luck!

In shorter terms
A family is planning a road trip & they have two options of companies of which they can rent their car from:

Budget Rent a Car Ltd & Discount Car and Truck Rental LTD.

For Budget, the car is $500
and they charge $0.10 per km.

For Discount the car is $800
and they charge $0.05 per km.

so my question..

(a) What are the flat rental fees (fixed costs) for each company?
(b) If they only travel 3,000 km in total, which company should they rent the car from. Why.
(c)4,000 km is the actual distance their traveling, which company would u recommend, & offer mathematical proof.

i honestly hate to be one of those people who ‘get others to do their work"
but this is part of a math package and im done EVERYTHING except for this stupidness, LOL

(a) By fixed costs I’m pretty sure it means the cost just to rent the car before any driving is done, which would be $500 for Budget and $800 for Discount.

(b) This part is asking you which company would have the lower total cost, once you factor in the fixed cost plus the mileage cost. So you have to determine how much it costs to drive 3000 km for each company, then add the respective fixed cost, to find which company is cheaper. For example, with Budget the mileage cost is (3000)(0.10) = $300, so the total cost is $300 + $500 = $800. You can do the same calculation to find whether Discount is cheaper (doesn’t look like it, since Discount charges $800 before you even leave the parking lot).

(c) The solution here involves the same idea, only you must determine the mileage costs for 4000 km instead of 3000 km. It still looks like Budget is the cheaper choice.

Well don’t know any dealer and from the others answers it seems that they don’t rent you cars. But I do know about some car rental companies that will rent you car of your own choice. As you are saying that you are traveling in October, so do have a good time for renting a car. Do apply a little early like 3-4 weeks before your trip for a car on a good car rental company like
