Ok, so my fiance and I had planned on a small wedding outside in a park in october, with a juge who would come out to marry us in a gazeboo.. we had rented an indoor pavilian for the reception had all very nice table cloths, napkins, plates rented, and my family was going to bing food for the reception dinner. all in all since my fiance is still in collage our buget was about 700 dollars because we didnt need to rent a reception hall.
unfortunutly both our cars died at almost the same time, and all of our money for the wedding itself ( 700) and our trip for the weekend after was gone.. so we postponed the wedding till january. The problem is most reception halls want 600 dollars for the room, pluss a 3, 000 food purchase minimum, we only have 75 ppl coming because we dont have a big family and dont want a huge wedding. weve been together for 6 yrs and feel the time is right to do it. even so, without a 3,00 dollar limit, its still well over 100 for the food, pluss tip, and tax…
also, most banquet halls wont let you bring your own food, we can afford the room, but we cant afford 12 dollars a plate. so We need alternatives.
we post poned the wedding for 4 monthes, not kowing we couldnt just rent a plain room, without having to also buy there food on the menue. no place will let us bring our own food.
is there any place we can just rent the room that allowes you to bring your own food? What about alternatives to have a reception that doesnt cost a fortune? We just need any ideas..any at all you can think of to have a reception were we can bring our own food
Look for a community center. Most communities have a website and do offer rental of community buildings. In some smaller towns, they will also rent out rooms in the school, such as the cafeteria. Anything can look nice with a few inexpensive decorations. The VFW or even the fire station may rent banquet rooms.
Have you gotten your dress yet? If so, you could still have a very beautiful, casual, and inexpensive wedding in October as planned. All you need is you, your groom, the judge and your guests. Since it’s in a park, no decorations are needed. With a judge, the ceremony will be quick, so chairs would only be needed for guests who cannot stand for 30 minutes or so. Then, ask your family to help make the food. My family and I are making the food for our wedding (150 guests) and we have estimated the cost at about $200. Now, since some of my aunts have offered to make dishes, this cost will be even smaller. You could ask your family to help with the food rather than bring a gift (this should probably only be asked to very close family, since you never expect anyone to bring a gift, but I think you get what I mean – family is always willing to help).
You can do it, just don’t give up and be resourceful.
